The 2017 ‘Campaign to Help Those With Intellectual Disabilities’ led by Heman Romero was very successful. $4000 was donated from our community and the IHM parishioners. $1000 was sent to help Special Olympics of Delaware, the remainder going to the following IHM local organizations : $1500 to the Mary Campbell Center, and $1500 to Waggies by Maggie and Friends.
Waggies by Maggie & Friends
Founded in November 2007, Waggies by Maggie & Friends is a nonprofit company headquartered in Wilmington, Delaware. The ‘Waggies’ organization employs persons with intellectual disabilities and takes pride in celebrating their work. We are a unique business that brings employees and volunteers together for the daily operation of producing dog treats. Being part of the Waggies team empowers our employees to be successful in their work and active members of the community.
Mary Campbell Center
The Mary Campbell Center is first, last and always someone’s home. Actually, it is home to 67 residents, each with different disabilities. The Center has been home to some residents since its beginning in 1976. Others have recently joined The Mary Campbell Center family. The wonderful news is that not one of the persons who lives here is alone. Each gains important support from a caring staff, giving volunteers, friends from the surrounding community, and, especially, from loving families. Because of this support, and because of their deep commitment and resolve, many of our residents have achieved higher levels of physical and mental growth than they had ever expected. This makes us all proud. The Children and Youth Program offers unique activities for children with special needs, ages 3-21, and their families. The main focus of the program is to improve the social and recreational skills of the participants, through play, while promoting independence, self- esteem and growth. We strive to promote positive peer interaction, physical development, creative expression, problem solving, and teamwork.
